The Russian military is often medieval in its hazing, and somewhat Neanderthal in their treatment of prisoners, (this may be unfair to Neanderthals). This week in a bit of good Christian cheer, Russian forces decided to execute three Ukrainians on their knees. It was barbaric, uncalled for, and a clear demonstration of unethical soldiering.
In addition to being a war crime, it was dumb. They have now given Ukrainian people yet another reason to never give up. If surrender equals being killed, fighting to the death may be the more elegant path. Cortez pulled off the same sort of trick by burning his ships in Mexico so that his forces would fight to the death. In Cortez’s case, it was a reasonable plan as he was vastly outnumbered. In the Russian case, they scored an own goal.
Warriors do not kill folks that have surrendered based on rules of war. No one that does that sort of thing can be called a professional military, but that really isn’t anything the Russian Army has been accused of.
Many Keshig members have served in the military with honor. Keshig find the slaughter of folks that have surrendered disgusting.
As a General Keshig rule, once one has defeated an enemy in any venue, it is the time to show grace and humility.
Do a max set of push ups RFN because you know what is right and wrong regardless of circumstances. Max out for the Ukrainians that were killed to make yourself that much harder.
